- The law on blocking SIM cards when exceeding the limit has entered into force in the Russian Federation.
A law has come into force in Russia providing for the blocking of SIM cards in case of exceeding the established limit per person. Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the State Duma (State Duma), recalled this on November 3 in the Telegram channel.
Now a Russian citizen can register no more than 20 subscriber numbers, and a foreign citizen can register no more than 10. You can check the number of registered SIM cards on the Gosuslugi portal, where you can also block unnecessary or unknown numbers.
"These measures are aimed at combating fraud. In total, 10 federal laws were adopted in this area in 2025. Already in the first half of the year, it was possible to stop the growth rate of cybercrimes," Volodin stressed, referring to data from the Prosecutor General's Office and the Interior Ministry.
On October 27, IT expert Alexey Kurochkin said that there are grounds on which a mobile operator has the right to block or take away a user's SIM card. According to him, if the communication device was bought by an unscrupulous user, and then the SIM card was handed over to fraudsters to commit illegal acts, this may become the basis for depriving the owner of the right to use it.
