Finland is launching military maneuvers in the regions bordering Russia. Senator Alexey Pushkov told about this on November 3 in his Telegram channel.

"The maneuver is being managed in Mikkeli, just 140 km from the border with Russia, where the headquarters of the newly formed new regional command is located," he wrote.

The politician noted that although direct historical parallels are not always possible, the logic of confrontation and the increased military presence on the Russian borders is alarming. According to him, Finland, which recently joined NATO, seeks to prove its importance in the alliance by active maneuvers near Russian territories.

"There are analogies with the situation before World War II, when Finland also played the role of a support country for the anti—Russian alliance led by Nazi Germany," the senator added.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on October 2 that Sweden and Finland joining NATO was nonsense. He noted that the Russian Federation has never had any problems in relations with either Finland or Sweden. There have always been a lot of Russian tourists in Finland, and many Russian citizens have even purchased real estate there.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on October 26 that the decision of the Finnish authorities to join NATO was erroneous. According to him, Moscow considers such steps as worsening regional stability.
