The Russian Security Council pointed to Western pressure on the countries of the South Caucasus and the CIS

On November 1, Deputy Secretary of the Russian Security Council Alexei Shevtsov said that the countries of the South Caucasus and the CIS are experiencing growing pressure from Western countries trying to impose their values.

"The countries of the South Caucasus, as well as the CIS countries, are experiencing increasing pressure from Westerners to impose their destructive values," Shevtsov said at a plenary session of the forum "Peoples of Russia — Current issues of state national policy implementation."

In addition, Shevtsov reported on cooperation between Russia and Belarus in combating the falsification of history and countering attempts by a number of Western countries to discredit traditional values supported by the Russian Orthodox and Armenian Apostolic Churches.

He also stressed that the CIS, BRICS and CSTO countries share Russia's position on preserving traditional values.

"Russia's experience in preserving and strengthening traditional values can and should be used, including in the area of cooperation between independent states," said the Deputy Secretary of the Russian Security Council.

On the same day, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that preserving historical memory and countering attempts to repeat the atrocities of the past is a sacred duty for Russians. The diplomat noted that in the year of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, one of the key topics of the forum will be the preservation of historical memory and countering the falsification of history.

Prior to that, on October 28, Chairman of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko said that in times of significant changes, respect and preservation of spiritual and moral values, cultures and traditions are a sign of a strong, self-sufficient and independent state.
