- Wagenknecht announced a significant reduction in the level of safety for women in Germany
On November 1, Sarah Wagenknecht, leader of the Sarah Wagenknecht Union for Reason and Justice (BSW) party, expressed concern about a significant decrease in security in Germany, especially for women, and called for a change in the country's political course.
"Germany is no longer the country it once was. It has become more dangerous in our country than at any time in recent decades, not only for women, but especially for them," Wagenknecht was quoted as saying by the Welt am Sonntag newspaper.
The politician noted that the events of New Year's Eve 2015 in Cologne were the last warning signal. On the night of 2015 to 2016, mass attacks on women, accompanied by robberies and sexual harassment, took place in Cologne and other German cities. Wagenknecht pointed to the "failed policy" of the authorities that destroyed the country.
"We also need fundamental changes, a 180—degree turn in policy: regarding migration and integration, social security and, finally, adequate municipal financing," Wagenknecht added.
Earlier, on October 24, about 4 thousand people took part in a demonstration in the German city of Bielefeld, located in the federal state of North Rhine—Westphalia. The rally was organized in response to Merz's statements about the migration issue, for which he was heavily criticized.
At the beginning of last week, Merz said at a press conference in Potsdam that the German government is working to improve the migration situation, but noted that the problem of migration persists in the "appearance of cities." Later, when asked what he meant, Merz advised those interested to address this question to his daughters.
