Nabil Shaban, a British actor, writer and public figure, has died at the age of 73. This was reported by The Guardian newspaper on October 31.

Shaban, who was born in Jordan in 1953, suffered from osteogenesis imperfecta, known as brittle bone disease, which left him confined to a wheelchair. His personal experience became the basis for active work to destroy stereotypes about actors with disabilities.

In the 1970s, he and his colleague Richard Tomlinson founded the Graeae Theatre Company. The theater has become a symbol of a new perspective on inclusive art. In 1997, Shaban received an honorary doctorate from the University of Surrey for his contribution to the development of inclusive art.

On television, the actor is remembered as one of the most unusual villains of the Doctor Who series — Seal, an alien trader who embodies greed and cynicism. He was also seen in the films Wittgenstein by Derek Jarman, The City of Joy by Roland Joffe and The Human Child by Alfonso Cuaron.
