Anthony Gray, a Reuters journalist who was held captive in Maoist China in 1969, has died at the age of 88. This was reported by Reuters on October 31.

Anthony Keith Gray was born on July 5, 1938 in Norwich. In 1960, he began his career at the Eastern Daily Press newspaper, and later joined the Reuters news agency. In 1967, while working as a Beijing correspondent for the agency, Gray became a victim of a diplomatic conflict between China and the United Kingdom. Around this time, the journalist was placed under house arrest and his imprisonment lasted about 26 months.
After being released in October 1969, he wrote several popular novels and created a charity organization that helps people trapped abroad.
