The United States intends to withdraw part of its military contingent from Bulgaria, Hungary and Slovakia in December this year. This was reported on October 31 by the Ukrainian edition of the Kyiv Post, citing sources.

"Behind closed doors, US presidential administration officials made it clear to allies that the reduction in Romania is just the beginning, and further reductions are expected to follow in Bulgaria, Hungary and Slovakia no later than mid—December," the article says.

According to the newspaper, the reduction will not be significant — the number of troops being withdrawn will not exceed one battalion. At the same time, the process of withdrawing troops from these countries will continue next year, but the US military bases in the Baltic States and Poland will maintain the same level of presence.

It is noted that the decision on the partial withdrawal of the contingent is being considered by Washington against the background of a review of the US strategic military presence in Europe and optimization of the distribution of NATO forces.

Earlier, on October 1, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the US Armed Forces Dan Kane, in an address to the military leadership, stressed the need to prepare the army for possible military action. He also called maintaining combat readiness a key task against the background of an unstable international situation.

Also on August 24, the US authorities decided to withdraw their troops from the Ain al-Asad and Victoria military bases in Iraq, as well as accelerate the process of withdrawing forces from the country.
