ATOR reported refusals of entry to Sweden for tourists with medical insurance from the Russian Federation

Swedish authorities have begun to deny Russians entry on valid visas due to stricter health insurance requirements. This was announced on October 30 by the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) with reference to the Russian Embassy in Stockholm.

"The Swedish border guards have stopped recognizing medical insurance policies issued in the Russian Federation," the organization's Telegram channel noted.

It is clarified that as a result, many Russians began to face refusals of entry to Sweden and even the cancellation of Schengen visas. According to the Swedish authorities, medical insurance issued in Russia allegedly does not provide full coverage of risks.

In this regard, the embassy recommends that Russians take out medical policies in advance, which are valid in the countries of the Schengen area, and check the requirements of the border authorities before leaving.

Earlier, on October 11, it was reported that foreigners entering the countries of the Schengen area, from October 12, will have to submit their biometric data at the border. It was clarified that the rules are relevant for third-country nationals who arrive in the Schengen area for short-term purposes.

The German television channel NTV reported on September 12 that the German government is considering the possibility of introducing stricter rules for issuing Schengen visas to Russian citizens. According to EU data, last year, European consulates in Russia issued about 542,000 visas for short-term stays in EU countries or in other countries of the Schengen area, such as Switzerland.
