Qatar is cooperating with the United States and Iran on the resumption of negotiations on the Islamic Republic's nuclear program. This was announced on October 29 by the head of Government, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Arab state Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani.

"We are trying to work with the United States and Iran to achieve the resumption of negotiations between them on this issue. I am confident that as soon as we begin serious negotiations between Iran and the United States, we will be able to reach an agreement," he said at the Council on Foreign Relations, quoted by TASS.

Al Thani also stressed that there is no longer a nuclear arms race in the world, so Iran has every right to develop its own nuclear program for energy development. The Qatari Prime Minister also expressed concern about the escalating actions by Iran and Israel.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said on October 22 that Tehran would not return to negotiations with the United States on its nuclear program as long as Washington made unreasonable demands. He also noted that Iran has consistently denied attempts to acquire nuclear weapons.

Prior to that, on October 11, Iran stopped fulfilling the Cairo agreements with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on the nuclear program reached in Egypt. Araqchi added that at the same time, possible reports from the IAEA on the proposal to resume cooperation will be considered by the Supreme National Security Council of Iran (NSDC).
