Seborrheic dermatitis is a chronic inflammation of the skin that occurs in areas with increased activity of the sebaceous glands. This is not just "greasiness", but an allergic skin reaction to abnormal sebum production. According to research, from 1% to 5% of adults suffer from this problem, and among infants the figure can reach 5%. This was announced on October 28 by the Sohu media portal.

When the skin reacts incorrectly to excess sebum secreted, such characteristic symptoms as oily scales and crusts on the head, redness of the T-zone and oily peeling on the face, dark red spots with scales on the chest and back, as well as redness, peeling and itching on other parts of the body appear.

The main causes of seborrheic dermatitis are considered to be a violation of sebum metabolism, excessive growth of the malassezium fungus (harmful microflora), a genetic predisposition, as well as stress, fatigue and malnutrition.

Science recommends using three-step care. First of all, you should clean your face, use gentle shampoos without aggressive ingredients, moisturize your skin, and avoid products with alcohol and strong flavors. It is also recommended to take any medications only as prescribed by a doctor.

In addition, it is important to pay attention to lifestyle correction and improvement of the internal condition. It is recommended to limit the consumption of carbohydrates, fatty foods, sweet and fried foods, but add more fruits and vegetables to the diet to normalize metabolism.

Among other things, it is necessary to follow a proper sleep regime — get enough sleep, avoid periods of insomnia, manage stress by avoiding irritants. It is recommended to refrain from scratching the affected skin areas and using cosmetics with aggressive ingredients, as well as wearing loose and soft cotton clothing.

Natalia Indilova, a cosmetologist and dermatovenerologist at the Institute of Plastic Surgery and Cosmetology, told Izvestia on September 19 that autumn skin care requires a special approach. She called proper cleansing the key point. The specialist also recommended temporarily abandoning aggressive cosmetic procedures to lighten the skin.
