Portrait of Picasso's beloved sold at auction in Paris for $37 million
A portrait of Dora Maar, Pablo Picasso's muse and lover, was sold at auction in Paris for $37 million. This was reported by the Associated Press on October 25.
The painting, titled "Bust of a woman in a hat with flowers (Dora Maar)," was put up for auction with a preliminary estimate of $9-11.6 million.
The work was written in July 1943 and a year later it ended up in a private collection, where it has been for more than 80 years. According to the agency, experts noted the excellent condition of the work.
Dora Maar was an artist and photographer. Her relationship with Picasso lasted about nine years, from 1936 to 1945.
Earlier, on June 24, in Montreal, environmental activists from the movement "Canada's Last Generation" poured pink paint on Picasso's painting L'htare, which was exhibited at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. The action was explained by the fact that local authorities spend more money on protecting works of art than on providing for the needs of their citizens.
