Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday, October 24, congratulated Russian Angelina Melnikova on her victory at the World Gymnastics Championships in Indonesia.

"I congratulate you on your brilliant victory in Jakarta and the title of two—time world champion," the message of congratulations posted on the Kremlin's website reads.

The Russian leader called the gymnast's performance triumphant and noted that it was a wonderful gift for fans, coaches and mentors, as well as everyone who supported Melnikova on her way to the highest standard medal.

The Head of State expressed confidence that the gymnast's talent and firmness of character would help her "continue to conquer new sports peaks."

The day before, Melnikova became a two-time world champion in the individual all-around in gymnastics. The athlete took first place at the World Championships in Jakarta, scoring 55.066 points in the sum of four exercises. She won a medal at the World Gymnastics Championships for the first time since 2021.

Mikhail Degtyarev, Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation and Head of the Russian Olympic Committee, congratulated the gymnast on her achievement. He called the gymnast's performance intriguing and noted that Melnikova showed a champion character, managing to pull herself together after a mistake on the balance beam and performing brilliantly in floor exercises.

Melnikova later spoke about her emotions after her performance in Jakarta. The gymnast said she regretted making the same mistake on the balance beam, but called her performance pretty clean. She added that the audience likes her floor exercises the most.
