The RCC intends to fight for the participation of Russian athletes in the Paralympics
The Russian Paralympic Committee (RPC) will fight for the participation of athletes from the Russian Federation in the 2026 Paralympics, despite the lack of opportunities for athletes to qualify for the competition. This was announced on October 23 by the head of the PKR Pavel Rozhkov.
According to him, the committee discussed with the staff of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) the possibility of athletes participating by bilateral invitation, but no response was given to this request. Rozhkov clarified that the RPC had been notified of the study of the possibility for Russian athletes to participate in the Paralympics.
He stressed that the hope for the participation of Russians in the Games, "although minimal, still remains," despite the fact that a very small number of athletes who are not among the leaders are allowed to participate in the competitions.
"But this does not mean that we are giving up, the PKK will fight to the end," Rozhkov concluded.
Earlier that day, the press service of the International Paralympic Committee announced that Russian athletes would not participate in the 2026 Paralympic Games. It is noted that the participation of athletes from the Russian Federation is impossible due to the lack of opportunity to qualify for the competition.
Prior to that, on October 21, Mikhail Degtyarev, Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation and head of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), said that the IBSF appeals tribunal had declared illegal the decision of the organization's congress to ban the participation of Russian athletes in international competitions. He noted that the Ministry of Sports and the ROC continue to work systematically to protect the rights and interests of Russian athletes. Degtyarev also expressed the hope that the IBSF's decision would set a precedent for other sports organizations that deny Russians access to international competitions.
