- CSKA will dedicate the match with Krylia Sovetov to Igor Akinfeev's 35th anniversary at the club
Football club (FC) CSKA will host the upcoming Russian Premier League (RPL) match against Krylia Sovetov in honor of the 35th anniversary of team captain Igor Akinfeev's performances at the army club. This was announced on October 23 by the CSKA press service in its Telegram channel.
"The match with Krylia Sovetov will be dedicated to our number 35 (Akinfeev's game number. - Ed.), the captain who has been defending the gates and honor of the army club for 35 years," the message says.
CSKA also called Akinfeev the most dedicated football player in the history of world football. The goalkeeper has only played for the army club throughout his career.
"No player has remained loyal to one and only one team for so long," the team notes.
The match will take place on Saturday at the VEB Arena at 19:00 Moscow time.
Akinfeev is the most decorated Russian football player. He has 23 trophies to his credit, including eight Cup wins, six Russian Championship wins, eight Russian Super Cups, and the 2005 UEFA Cup.
On October 5, Akinfeev could not finish the match of the 11th round of the Russian Premier League against Spartak due to injury. He was forced to leave the field in the 60th minute, and goalkeeper Vladislav Torop replaced him.
However, CSKA beat Spartak 3-2. It was clarified that midfielders Kirill Glebov (5th minute), Ivan Oblyakov (12th, penalty kick) and defender Daniil Krugovoy (18th) scored goals for the winning team. Midfielder Jedson Fernandes (21st) and striker Levi Garcia (57th) scored for Spartak.
