Two-time USSR football champion as a member of Torpedo Shustikov has died.

At the age of 86, Viktor Shustikov, the "Torpedo" and the USSR national team, passed away after a long illness. This was announced on October 23 by the team's press service on the website.

"Viktor Shustikov, the legendary football player of Torpedo and the USSR national team, died at the age of 87 after a long illness. <...> Torpedo Moscow FC expresses its sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased!" the message says.

Shustikov was a graduate of the football school of the Moscow club. He played as a defender for Torpedo from 1958 to 1972. From 1968 to 1972, he became the captain of the team. The player was the club's record holder for the number of matches played — 427, of which 11 were in European competitions.

As a member of the USSR national team, he played 10 matches in 1963-1964 and scored one goal. In addition, Shustikov was included in the lists of the best players of the season six times. After completing his career in 1974-1980, the athlete became the coach of Torpedo, and later of the Torpedo football school.

In 1997, Shustikov was awarded the medal of the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, second class, in connection with the 100th anniversary of Russian football.
