- The prosecutor's office has launched an investigation into death threats against Sarkozy in prison.
Three people have been arrested after death threats against former French President Nicolas Sarkozy. This was reported on October 22 by the BFMTV channel, citing sources.
The threats were recorded on video, which was reportedly posted on social media. The video was shot by an inmate at the Sante prison in Paris, where he threatens Sarkozy upon his arrival at the institution.
The Prosecutor's office said an investigation had been launched into the death threats.
"An administrative search has been conducted," the prosecutor's office said.
It is specified that two mobile phones were seized during the search. If the case is heard in court, Nicolas Sarkozy will file a civil lawsuit.
Earlier in the day, the media reported that during Sarkozy's prison term, police officers would be stationed in the cells next to him, who would have to guarantee his safety. According to French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez, police officers will change shifts and stay in cells until the end of Sarkozy's term. At the same time, unions of prison guards expressed dissatisfaction with the presence of police officers in prison.
On October 21, Sarkozy arrived at the Sante prison in Paris, where he will serve a five-year sentence in solitary confinement. On September 25, it was reported that a Paris court sentenced former French President Nicolas Sarkozy to five years in prison in the case of illegal financing of his election campaign from Libya. He was also fined €100,000.
