In Saratov, a man was sentenced to 15 years in a penal colony for treason

The Saratov Regional Court found a local resident guilty of high treason for passing information to the Ukrainian special services and sentenced him to 15 years in a high-security penal colony. This was announced on October 22 by the court's press service.

"The court found that A.D. Shurygin, a 27-year—old resident of Saratov, committed high treason, that is, providing other assistance to a foreign state in activities directed against the security of the Russian Federation, committed by a citizen of the Russian Federation," the Telegram channel says.

The Saratov Regional Court issued a verdict, finding Shurygin guilty of committing a crime under Article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("High treason").

The court found that in one of the messengers, the accused found an account where they offered to collect and transmit information about strategic facilities and Russian military personnel for money.

In 2025, feeling a negative attitude towards the Russian leadership, he contacted employees of the special services of Ukraine and several times provided them with data that could be used against the security of the Russian Federation. He also agreed to the task of checking the residential address of the serviceman and was looking for participants to complete this task.

The accused was sentenced to 15 years in prison with a restriction of liberty for 1 year and 6 months. Shurygin will serve his sentence in a high-security penal colony.

The tightening will also apply to foreigners and stateless persons.

A day earlier, a Russian citizen was detained in Moscow, suspected of transmitting information to Ukraine about the deployment of air defense systems and other facilities of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation in the Moscow Region and Krasnodar Territory. A criminal case has been opened under Article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, the maximum penalty under the article provides for sanctions up to life imprisonment. The court decided to take the suspect into custody.
