Egyptian emergency services have rescued a Spanish tourist who fell 80 m deep into the pyramid of Pharaoh Snefru in the Dahshur archaeological zone. This was reported on October 21 by the Gulf News newspaper.

"A tourist slipped on a steep wooden ramp in one of the narrow interior corridors of the pyramid, probably suffering a broken leg. Rescue teams were dispatched immediately after the emergency call," the newspaper writes.

In conditions of limited space and poor visibility, medics and civil defense personnel passed through a narrow passage with a steep slope that leads deep into the pyramid. By the woman's faint cries for help, rescuers were able to find her near one of the internal cameras.

The woman was secured with safety belts and a board, and then carefully lifted through narrow stone passages. Due to poor ventilation and limited space, the team had to move very carefully to avoid further injury.

"The operation took several hours, and thanks to the professionalism of the rescuers, the woman was safely taken to the hospital," the article says.

Earlier in the day, the Daily Mail reported on the threat of the collapse of Tutankhamun's tomb in Egypt. Archaeologists from Cairo University have discovered large cracks in the stone blocks of the pyramid, which can lead to the collapse of the burial. In addition, the increasing humidity promotes the development of fungi that corrode the frescoes, which accelerates the destruction process.
