China increased imports of Russian wheat 73 times in September
In September, China spent a record $1,293 million on Russian wheat, which was the highest since November last year. This was reported by RIA Novosti on October 20, citing data from the Chinese customs.
"September imports increased 73 times compared to August," the agency said.
In addition, there is a steady increase in imports of other grain crops. The import of barley from Russia to China has been steadily increasing for the fourth month in a row, in September it increased by a third, reaching $9.84 million. Shipments of oats also showed significant growth, doubling to $3,267 million. China has been increasing interest in this grain for the third month in a row.
At the same time, imports of buckwheat and corn decreased. September purchases of buckwheat were 44% lower than in August, amounting to $2.189 million. Also, despite an 8% decrease in corn imports compared to the end of summer, shipments totaled $7,509 million.
In general, China increased grain purchases from Russia by 13.3% over the month, spending $24.1 million, but imports decreased by one and a half times year-on-year.
Earlier, on September 23, it was reported that the import of pears from China to Russia in August showed significant growth, increasing almost one and a half times in a month, to $2.8 million. It was also noted that in August, Russia significantly increased exports of barley and oats to China on a monthly basis, while supplies of corn and buckwheat decreased significantly.
