Rosatom announced plans of the Russian Federation to raise Soviet nuclear submarines from the bottom of the seas

Russia plans to raise two Soviet nuclear submarines K-27 and K-159, which were sunk in the Arctic seas, and work will begin in 2027. This was announced on October 18 by the Rosatom State Corporation.

"The draft federal budget for 2026 and the planned period of 2027-2028 provides for the allocation of funds for the rehabilitation of the Arctic seas from sunken and flooded radiation—hazardous facilities, starting in 2027," the RBC corporation said.

The project will be funded within the framework of the federal budget for 2026-2028, but the exact amount of allocations has not been disclosed.

The state program for the development of the nuclear energy industry also includes significant funds to ensure the safe management of radioactive waste and the disposal of nuclear heritage sites. Over 30 billion rubles are planned to be allocated for these purposes within three years.

On October 1, it was reported that an American Bell P-63 Kingcobra fighter aircraft from World War II, which had lain for almost 80 years at the bottom of a lake in Kamchatka, was delivered to Moscow for restoration. It is specified that the aircraft, transferred to the USSR under lend-lease, was found in 2023 by an expedition of the Russian Geographical Society and the Expeditionary Center of the Ministry of Defense of Russia.
