Comet Lemmon (C/2025 A6) will pass at the minimum distance from Earth — 89 million km — on October 21. It will be available for observation using telescopes and cameras. This was announced on October 18 in the Telegram channel of the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the Institute of Space Research (IKI) and the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics (ISSF) of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

"Comet C/2025 A6 Lemmon in 3 days, on October 21, will pass at a minimum distance from Earth of about 89 million km. The comet is not visible, and almost certainly will not be visible, to the naked eye, but it can be found using relatively inexpensive cameras with good aperture, as well as simple home telescopes," the report says.

According to experts, the comet is probably now at the peak of its luminosity, and a further increase in brightness is unlikely. It is noted that the current interest in the comet is largely exaggerated. At the same time, the comet can be observed at least until the end of October and early November. The possible further increase in its brightness is limited, by a maximum of 2-3 times.

At the moment, the comet is moving from the constellation of the Hounds of the Dogs towards the constellation of the Wolf. The brightest star that can be seen in this direction is Arcturus. It is not possible to see the comet without special equipment or experience, the scientists emphasized.

On October 17, astronomer Lyudmila Koshman, head of the methodological support department at the Moscow Planetarium, announced that on October 21, comet C/2025 A6 (Lemmon) will reach the point of maximum approach to Earth, becoming the brightest autumn object of its kind. According to her, the comet will reach its peak brightness (over +3.5m) around October 26.
