Budapest has become the venue for a future meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and American leader Donald Trump, as Hungary is the only one in Europe that follows the path of peace. This was announced on October 18 by Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
"Why Budapest? Since yesterday, many in the world have been asking and guessing why Hungary has become a meeting place for the American and Russian presidents. The answer is simple: we are alone in Europe on the path to peace," he wrote on Facebook (owned by Meta, a recognized extremist organization and banned in the Russian Federation).
He noted that Hungary has never stopped channels for negotiations, regardless of the political situation, and also stressed the importance of cooperation instead of confrontation.
According to him, Hungary is a country where there is a real possibility that the US-Russian negotiations can lead to peace.
"Hungary today is a European country where there is a high probability that the US-Russian negotiations will lead to peace. And where even European aspects can be applied. Brussels has isolated itself, but we will continue negotiations," Orban added.
On October 16, Trump announced a meeting with Putin in Hungary and called the phone conversation with the Russian president productive. He later noted that he hoped to hold the summit within two weeks.
At the same time, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto called the news about the upcoming meeting between Putin and Trump in Budapest fantastic. According to him, the road to peace lies through negotiations.
