RIA Novosti military correspondent Ivan Zuev died on October 16 in the Zaporizhia region as a result of a Ukrainian drone strike. His colleague Yuri Voitkevich was also seriously injured. All the details are in the Izvestia article.

What happened in the Zaporizhia region

According to RIA Novosti, a drone of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) attacked a group of Russian journalists working in the special military operation zone. As a result of the strike, military commander Zuev, who had been covering events on the front line for several years, was killed. His colleague Yuri Voitkevich was seriously injured and was taken to the hospital.

Zuev has worked at the agency since the beginning of the conflict and has been repeatedly awarded state and departmental awards. In March of this year, the gratitude of the President of Russia was announced to him.

Official reaction

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Ukraine was killing journalists "with the absolute connivance of the so-called civilized ones." According to her, Russian correspondents have long been a target for the Kiev regime.

Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry Rodion Miroshnik stressed that "the regime of President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky will answer for the crime committed." He said that all information about the crime will be transferred to international structures that protect the rights of journalists and civilians. According to him, Russia will use all available means to seek the responsibility of the Kiev regime for what is happening. Miroshnik also assured that the perpetrators will not go unpunished.

Investigative actions and investigation

On October 17, the Investigative Committee (IC) of the Russian Federation opened a criminal case under Articles 105, 144 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Murder and attempted murder, obstruction of the legitimate professional activities of journalists"), following the death of journalist Ivan Zuev and the injury of his colleague Yuri Voitkevich. The ministry clarified that the persons involved in the attack are already being identified among the armed formations of Ukraine (VFU). The investigators intend to bring them to justice for the crime committed.
