The supply of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine could cause "tremendous damage" to relations between Russia and the United States. This was stated on October 15 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in an interview with the newspaper Kommersant.

"President [of the United States] Donald Trump, among other comments, mentioned that he does not want escalation. Recognizing that this will be an escalation, and a very serious one at that. Ukraine will have nothing to do with it. This will simply cause enormous damage to the prospects for normalization of relations between Russia and the United States and a way out of the completely complete impasse into which these relations were driven by the administration of [former American leader] Joe Biden," he said.

As Lavrov recalled, Trump has repeatedly stated that the conflict in Ukraine is a "Biden conflict," and he himself wants to find ways to resolve the situation in order to prevent deaths and restore opportunities for full-fledged cooperation with Russia. However, the European Union (EU), according to the Russian Foreign Minister, is trying to make the Ukrainian crisis a "Trump conflict" as soon as possible.

The minister also noted that Russia did not request a meeting in order to convince the United States not to supply Tomahawk to Ukraine. According to Lavrov, there are experienced people in the American administration who perfectly understand all possible risks.

"[The delivery of Tomahawk to Kiev] will also mean a dangerous escalation of relations between Russia and the United States. I have no doubt that there (in the White House. — Ed.) they understand this," the Russian Foreign Minister concluded.

On October 6, Trump announced the actual decision on the supply of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, but did not announce it. According to him, he first plans to figure out exactly how the allocated shells will be used.

In turn, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, on October 8 called on the United States to show restraint. She also stressed that a positive decision is fraught not only with "spinning the spiral of confrontation," but also causing irreparable damage to Russian-American relations.
