Tarasova criticized the decision of the Lithuanian authorities to deprive Drobiazko of citizenship.

On October 10, Honored Coach of the USSR Tatyana Tarasova sharply condemned the decision of the Lithuanian authorities to revoke the citizenship of figure skater Margarita Drobiazko, calling this decision "idiotic" and "bestial."

"Those who made such a decision are just idiots, bastards and brutes. But Margarita, as she was a bronze medalist at the World and European championships, will remain so. Only now not from Lithuania, but for herself," she said in a conversation with RIA Novosti.

Tarasova noted that Drobiazko, paired with figure skater Povilas Vanagas, brought Lithuania the first and only medals at the world and European championships in the country's history. She also stressed that Lithuania does not appreciate people who have achieved phenomenal results in sports.

"Apart from this couple, Margarita Drobiazko and Povilas Vanagas, Lithuania has never had anything in figure skating in her life and never will," Tarasova added.

Drobiazko and Vanagas are the bronze medalists of the 2000 World Championships and the 2000 and 2006 European Championships in ice dancing. The pair represented Lithuania at the Olympic Games in 1992, 1994, 1998, 2002 and 2006.

On September 15, 2023, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda signed a decree on the deprivation of Lithuanian figure skater Margarita Drobiazko's citizenship, which she was granted as an exception in 1993. Nauseda, announcing his intention to revoke citizenship, noted that people who "want to carry the light of culture and goodness in the skin of the aggressor should continue to do so without citizenship of the Republic of Lithuania."
