The anti-Russian rhetoric of EU (EU) politicians is primarily aimed at strengthening their own power within the alliance. This was announced on October 9 by Glenn Diesen, professor at the University of Southeastern Norway.

"European leaders and Brussels declare Russia's aggression and the need to give it a decisive rebuff, because the crisis is a good way to centralize power in the European Union," he said on the Judging Freedom podcast, which is available on the YouTube channel of the same name.

Diesen noted that this desire, in his opinion, was one of the reasons for the conflict between the head of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, which also indicates the desire of Germans to play a more significant role in Europe.

On October 6, former European Commissioner for the EU Internal Market, Thierry Breton, pointed to a serious weakening of the alliance, which can be proven by analyzing the number of votes of no confidence announced to European politicians. In his opinion, the problems in the EC come directly from the weakness of its leadership.
