The State Duma warned about fraud with inflated prices for checking meters
In Russia, fraudsters deceive pensioners by imposing meter verification at inflated prices. Yaroslav Nilov, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans' Affairs, told about this on October 11.
"They are dragging the older generation into their networks: they are doing some kind of work, the results of which are difficult to verify. Well, they turned on this meter, looked at it, turned off the water, turned it on, showed something there, and immediately wrote out a check," the deputy added in an interview with TASS.
Nilov noted that after such "checks" companies issue invoices for 15 thousand rubles, while the actual cost of checking both meters from an accredited company is 1.5 thousand rubles.
It is clarified that such companies often start by posting ads about the need for urgent meter checks, and then call the residents. The Chairman of the committee stressed that this is an obvious fraud that harms pensioners, and called for informing the older generation about such schemes.
A bill stating that fraud with pensioners' money will become an aggravating circumstance was prepared for submission to the State Duma by deputies of the LDPR faction led by Leonid Slutsky, which became known on July 17. It was clarified that fraud related to forcing citizens to apply for loans or loans has become a large-scale social and economic problem in Russia.
