Lukashenko assessed the possibility of restoring the USSR
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said at the CIS summit that it was impossible to restore the USSR, but the economic space must be preserved.
"I'm not agitating anyone to restore the Soviet Union — it's impossible today, but the economic space must be preserved," the Pool One Telegram channel quotes him as saying.
Lukashenko noted that only those who are allowed by the participating states themselves should have access to this economic space, BelTA quoted him as saying.
In his opinion, it is necessary to increase the margin of strength of the economies of the CIS countries and focus on joint activities within the framework of the common market, while not returning to the Soviet Union.
Earlier, on September 30, Lukashenko said that Russia should play a central role in the development of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). According to him, the Russian Federation should "be on the main plan" in order to "glue, unite, and prevent the main union from falling apart at this time."
