German musician Theo Jorgensmann died a week after he turned 77. This was announced on October 7 on his official Facebook page (owned by Meta, a company whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).
It is specified that the musician died on October 6.
Jorgensmann was born in 1948 and began learning the clarinet at the age of 18. Later, he became one of the leading jazz clarinetists and a significant figure in avant-garde jazz. Theo's professional career began in the 1970s, and over the course of his life he has worked with dozens of world-class names.
From 1975 to 1977, the musician led the Clarinet Contact project, consisting of five clarinetists, and toured extensively. In 1997, he formed his own quartet. In addition to his career as a performer, Jorgensmann taught clarinet and free improvisation at the university level, and wrote a book about his discipline.
In 1987, a documentary film was made about Theo Jorgensmann's life and work. His discography includes many releases, starting in 1977 and ending with his last album, released in 2024.
