Dmitry Yadrov, head of the Federal Air Transport Agency, told reporters on October 8 that the issue of retrofitting Superjet passenger aircraft from Russian-French SaM146 engines to domestic PD-8s is currently being worked out.

"Every engine, whether it's Russian, American, or English, has its own resource ceiling. After that, the engine needs to undergo major repairs. It is clear that in the end, we will probably have to re—motor these domestic aircraft with foreign engines," TASS quoted him as saying.

He stressed that in order to implement this initiative, it is necessary to complete the certification of the domestic PD-8 engine, which depends on the test results, which will begin soon.

Yadrov added that the Superjet, despite the need to extend its service life, remains a modern aircraft with the ability to operate for more than 20 years. Rosaviatsia is actively working on the restoration of the fleet and is taking all necessary measures to ensure the safe operation of aircraft, he added.

On September 25, Anton Alikhanov, the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, announced that serial deliveries of Ansat helicopters with a Russian VK-650 engine would begin in 2027. In addition, he also noted the importance of passing all necessary tests and obtaining a certificate. The minister added that the issue of remotorization of Ansats from previous years, which have foreign-made engines, is currently being worked out.

Prior to that, on September 5, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that the process of engine import substitution on Sukhoi Superjet aircraft and Ansat helicopters had been completed. The Russian leader said that the positive dynamics in the industry creates conditions for strengthening the industrial and technological sovereignty of the state, the development of transport, energy, as well as overall economic growth and the achievement of national goals of the Russian Federation.
