Russians named a decent size of the average pension
According to a survey conducted by the job search service SuperJob, Russians on average consider a decent retirement income of 49,800 rubles per month. Residents of Moscow express the highest expectations about pensions, while in regions such as Astrakhan and Yaroslavl, the requirements are somewhat lower.
According to RBC, retirement expectations vary depending on the age of the respondents. For example, Russians over the age of 45 consider 50,800 rubles to be a decent retirement income, while younger respondents (under 35) expect to receive 48,300 rubles per month. Between the ages of 35 and 45, citizens are guided by the amount of 51,500 rubles.
In addition, women, unlike men, on average expect to receive a slightly lower pension — 49,400 rubles against 50,300 for men. Respondents with higher education named a pension in the amount of 51,200 rubles as worthy, and those with secondary vocational education — 50,100 rubles. At the same time, Russians with incomes above 100,000 rubles per month expect a pension of 52,100 rubles, while those with incomes under 50,000 rubles expect 47,200 rubles.
Moscow topped the list with the highest expectations: residents of the capital consider a pension of 52,500 rubles to be worthy. It is followed by St. Petersburg (51,900 rubles), Khabarovsk (50,100 rubles), Tyumen (49,500 rubles) and Vladivostok (49,400 rubles).
The survey was conducted from September 8 to October 6, 2025. It was attended by 1,600 respondents from 447 localities, including Moscow, St. Petersburg and major Russian cities.
It is specified that, according to Rosstat, as of August 1, 2025, the average pension was 23,520 rubles. Residents of the Far North and some other categories of citizens receive additional allowances, and pensions are recalculated twice a year — in January and August, taking into account new work points.
Igor Balynin, PhD in Economics, associate professor at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, said on October 7 that in November 2025, the recalculation of pensions will affect three categories of citizens at once — recipients of old-age insurance pensions, flight crews of civil aviation and workers in the coal industry. At the same time, the fixed portion will increase from 8,907.70 rubles to 19,129.40 rubles, to which a care allowance of 1,314 rubles will be added.
