The Director of National Intelligence of the United States, Tulsi Gabbard, called for a lie detector test of department employees in order to identify data leaks to the media. This was reported on October 8 by the CBS News channel, citing sources in the department.

"Gabbard published an internal memo last month in which she ordered the American intelligence services to check the possibility of conducting random polygraph tests of their employees or contractors," the publication says.

According to the newspaper, the note stated the need to include questions from employees about the transfer of information to representatives of the press in the tests. It is noted that the administration of US President Donald Trump is trying to prevent the "disclosure of classified and confidential information," warning intelligence members that they "will face additional scrutiny in the event of leaks to the media."

Gabbard stressed that using a polygraph to detect leaks in the press will become common practice in counterintelligence investigations.

The New York Times reported on September 20 that the Pentagon was tightening the rules of the press, requiring journalists to refrain from using information without the official approval of the American authorities. It is noted that journalists will also be prohibited from freely moving around the Pentagon without an escort.
