The Indian authorities are considering purchasing an additional five S-400 air defense systems from Russia. This was reported on October 6 by the Hindustan Times newspaper.
"This week, senior officials of the Ministry of Defense will meet with their Russian counterparts to consider the possibility of joint production or direct purchase of five more S-400 air defense systems from Moscow," the material says.
It is specified that the purchase is planned to be made in order to strengthen the country's long-range defensive potential. The agreement is expected to be approved before the arrival of Russian President Vladimir Putin in India on December 5.
In addition, according to the publication, the cost of an additional five systems has already been agreed, including an annual price increase from 2018.
On September 17, Putin noted the trusting and friendly nature of relations between Russia and India. He stressed that under the leadership of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country pursues an independent and sovereign policy.
