- Putin: possible delivery of Tomahawk to Kiev will destroy relations with the United States
Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that a possible US decision to transfer Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine could destroy positive trends in bilateral relations between the states. The Russian leader said this on October 5 in an interview with journalist Pavel Zarubin.
"This will lead to the destruction of our relationship. In any case, there are positive trends in these relations," Putin stressed.
According to him, the further development of the situation depends not only on Russia.
On October 2, Putin noted that the supply of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine would mean a new stage of escalation, including between the Russian Federation and the United States. According to the Russian leader, the country will improve its air defense system and will start shooting down Tomahawks on approach.
On October 3, American columnist Ted Snyder drew attention to the fact that the United States would most likely not be able to supply Ukraine with long-range Tomahawk missiles, or would do so in limited quantities. He clarified that currently the United States itself has a small number of missiles, while producing less than 200 units per year.
On October 2, Reuters reported that the United States is unlikely to decide to transfer Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine, despite reports from representatives of the presidential administration about possible supplies. It was noted that these plans are not feasible because the current reserves are intended for the US Navy and other purposes.
