Netanyahu announced his intention to seek the disarmament of Hamas
Israel intends to seek the complete disarmament of the radical Palestinian group Hamas and the demilitarization of the Gaza Strip after the release of all hostages. This was announced on October 4 by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a video message.
"Hamas will be disarmed and the Gaza Strip will be demilitarized. This will happen through diplomatic or military means," The Times of Israel newspaper quoted him as saying.
Netanyahu also approved sending a negotiating team to Egypt to agree on the details of a peace plan for the Gaza Strip. He noted that Israel is taking "several days" for this process and expects the immediate release of all hostages held in the enclave.
"Our intention and the intention of our American friends is to complete the negotiations within a few days," the Israeli prime minister stressed.
He also outlined a priority date for the release of the hostages — the Jewish pilgrimage holiday of Sukkot, which in 2025 is celebrated from October 6 to October 13.
Earlier in the day, US President Donald Trump demanded quick action from Hamas on the release of the hostages. He also expressed gratitude to Israel for temporarily stopping the bombing in order to give a chance to complete the release of the hostages and reach a peace agreement.
Trump's full-fledged plan to end the conflict in the Gaza Strip was unveiled on September 29. It consists of 20 items. In general terms, the plan is to withdraw Israeli troops from the strip and suspend the military operation in return for the release of the hostages being held, the restoration of infrastructure and the removal of Hamas and other groups from power in the region.
On October 3, Trump announced that a gas agreement should be reached by the evening of October 5 at 18:00 Washington time (October 6, 1:00 Moscow time). In his statement, Trump also appealed to Palestinian civilians to evacuate to safer areas of Gaza.
On the same day, the Hamas movement confirmed its agreement to transfer control of the Gaza Strip to the Palestinian Committee. The movement also agrees to release all Israeli hostages. In this regard, the Palestinian movement intends to proceed to indirect negotiations with Israel on the exchange of hostages. In addition, the Palestinian group Islamic Jihad (a terrorist organization banned in Russia) supported Hamas' response to the US plan to end the war in Gaza.
The Israeli authorities, in turn, ordered the suspension of military operations in Gaza. It was noted that activity in the Gaza Strip would be reduced "to a minimum."
