Dodik asked Putin to work out a solution for the Balkans with Trump
At a meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin at the Valdai Forum on October 2, President of the Republika Srpska (RS) Milorad Dodik asked him and his American counterpart Donald Trump to work out sustainable solutions for the Balkan region.
"I asked President [Putin] to pay attention to another point that may be of great importance in the negotiations that Russia is conducting with the United States of America. If an agreement is reached between the two world powers, it is extremely important that attention to the Balkans is not missed," Dodik said in an interview with TASS.
He suggested that the Russian Federation and the United States could create a special "commission on the Balkans" to stabilize the situation in the region.
Dodik also said that the meeting with Putin made it possible to discuss all planned issues, including economic and cultural cooperation, as well as cooperation in the field of sports. Thus, one of the RS basketball teams will soon take part in the VTB League, which, according to the President of the republic, indicates that barriers have been overcome, despite threats from European associations.
In addition, Dodik stressed the importance of Russia's strategic support in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on issues related to Republika Srpska. He noted that this aspect had also been discussed with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
Dodik called his conversation with Putin at the Valdai Forum important on September 2. He also appealed to the Russian president with a request to expose at the next meetings of the Security Council the role of "certain Western circles" that encroach on the norms of international law. In addition, the head of the RS asked his Russian counterpart not to leave the republic at the mercy of bureaucrats from Brussels when the foundations of peace will be laid.
