Russian military personnel secretly crept up the collector pipe to the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) and knocked them out. This was announced on October 4 by the commander of a unit of the Southern Military District operating in the interests of the Center group of forces, with the call sign Tikhy.

"We moved inside the pipes. The enemy dropped explosions, beacons, and motion sensors into these pipes along our route. That is, when we started moving towards them, the enemy already knew that we were there and opened fire on us. We were moving through the forest belts, the enemy was knocked out of fortified positions," the soldier told RIA Novosti.

He noted that the use of tactics of stealthy movement through the sewers made it possible to minimize losses among Russian units.
