- Saveliev declared the leadership of the Russian Federation in the introduction of digital technologies in transport
The Russian transport industry occupies a leading position in the world in the implementation of advanced digital technologies. This was announced on October 1 by Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Saveliev.
"The Russian transport complex actually occupies a leading position in the world in the implementation of advanced digital technologies," he said.
According to Saveliev, one of the most important areas is the Unmanned Logistics Corridors project, which has developed a roadmap for the development of highly automated vehicles until 2028. Currently, there are 90 unmanned trucks operating on the roads of Russia, which have covered more than 8.5 million km in 2.5 years.
The Ministry of Transport is developing a federal law that will regulate the use of highly automated vehicles on public roads, with a planned entry into force in the first quarter of 2027, Saveliev added.
The development of unmanned aircraft systems is also continuing as part of digital initiatives. Russia is among the leaders in shaping the regulatory framework for the use of UAS, along with countries such as the United States and China. Saveliev named the creation of a universal identification system for unmanned vehicles, which will operate on the basis of the ERA-GLONASS system, as one of the key tasks. It will be used in March 2026.
In addition, according to Saveliev, the Russian Ministry of Transport is actively developing digital solutions for logistics. In particular, starting in 2026, "GIS electronic transportation documents" will become mandatory in the country, which will greatly simplify interaction between transportation participants. The concept of intelligent checkpoints is also being implemented, which will reduce the inspection time of cargo vehicles to 10 minutes.
On September 4, Saveliev also noted the great importance of transport infrastructure for the development of the Far East. According to him, an important megaproject for the development of connectivity between the development of the Far East and Siberia is the construction of the eastern railway landfill. In addition, until 2030, measures are envisaged to modernize the airfield infrastructure of 29 airports located in the Far Eastern Federal District (Far Eastern Federal District).
