Journalist Vitaly Korotich, who headed Ogonyok magazine, died at the age of 90.

Journalist Vitaly Korotich, who headed Ogonyok magazine during the years of Perestroika, has died at the age of 89. This was announced on September 30 by historian Viktor Mironenko.

"On September 29, Vitaly Alekseevich Korotich died in a Moscow hospital. He was a man, a man in everything," he wrote on his Facebook page (owned by Meta, a company whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).

Korotich was born in Kiev in 1936, graduated from the Medical Institute and the Kiev State Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages. In 1966, he joined the board of the USSR Writers' Union.

In 1986, Korotich was appointed editor-in-chief of Ogonyok magazine. In two years under his leadership, the circulation of the publication has grown from 1.5 million to 4.5 million copies.
