An athlete from the Nizhny Novgorod region, who participated in a table tennis tournament in Cheboksary, was disqualified on September 29 for six months for hitting another tennis player on the head with a racket.

According to data obtained by TASS, the 15-year-old athlete, upset by the defeat, threw the racket so that it first hit the head of another participant in the tournament, and then flew off and hit another person. For this, she was shown a red card with a disqualification until the end of the tournament.

In early September, the sports and disciplinary commission of the Russian Table Tennis Federation decided to impose sanctions on her: disqualification for six months from September 3, 2025 and conditional disqualification for six months starting from March 4, 2026.

Earlier, on September 24, skier Yaroslava Popova was disqualified for one year for violating anti-doping rules. The athlete is 23 years old, at the 2025 Russian Championships she became the third in giant slalom and the second in parallel slalom.
