A powerful M6.4 class flare was recorded on the Sun.
An M6.4 class pulsed flare was recorded on the Sun. This was reported on September 28 at the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the Institute of Space Research (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
"According to the received data, a pulsed flash of class M6.4 was registered at the eastern edge of the Sun today at about noon Moscow time. The maximum energy release, according to measurements of the Sun's X—ray radiation, occurred at 11:43 Moscow time," the laboratory's Telegram channel says.
Experts noted that this is the largest solar flare since June 19, 2025 — over the past three months, all observed bursts of activity have occurred at a lower level.
According to scientists, the event occurred against the background of growing solar activity. In addition, there has been an increase in the number and power of outbreaks, and activity has been increasing since Friday evening.
The Federal State Budgetary Institution Institute of Applied Geophysics (FSBI IPG) reported that on the night of September 20, an outbreak of the penultimate power class was recorded in the Sun. It is specified that this phenomenon was recorded at 00:41 Moscow time. At the same time, the flash lasted for 38 minutes.
