Russia expressed hope that the results of the upcoming parliamentary elections in Moldova would objectively reflect the will of the country's residents. This was announced on September 25 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

"We are closely following the electoral campaign in Moldova. We hope that the results of the upcoming vote will objectively reflect the true will of the people of the country. We stand for the restoration and development of constructive relations between our countries and peoples," reads a statement on the website of the Foreign Ministry.

Zakharova noted that Moldovans do not support and do not understand the Russophobic statements of the republic's officials. According to the diplomat, the intensification of anti-Russian rhetoric has become a distinctive feature of the elections in Moldova.

"The electoral campaign, according to Moldovans themselves, has become the most anti—democratic in all 34 years of the republic's independence," Zakharova added.

On September 24, Zakharova noted that Moldovans must unite against the ongoing Romanization, otherwise they will lose control of their own lives and will be forced to mimic power.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on the same day that a significant part of the Moldovan population, which advocates good relations with the Russian Federation, was deprived of the right to vote in their country. He added that many people in Moldovan society advocate a more balanced policy towards Russia.
