The UK is trying to persuade Russians to commit treason using MI6's new Silent Courier program. This was stated on September 25 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, in her Telegram channel.

The program, called Silent Courier, was publicly unveiled by MI6 Director Richard Moore last week in Istanbul, according to the UK government's website. Zakharova noted that the main purpose of the program is to attract Russian citizens to cooperate with British intelligence, which is classified as high treason in Russian law.

Zakharova stressed that the use of the darknet (a hidden segment of the Internet) for such purposes is not new, but the open popularization of the program and its connection with the British media turn the initiative into an act against freedom of speech and conscience. She also added that, despite realizing the serious consequences for Russians, the UK continues to push people to commit crimes.

"Everyone knows that the British special services have blood on their hands — the thesis was propagandized even in the film adaptation of the James Bond saga. What surprised me in this whole story is that the BBC stopped even formally pretending and finally dropped the masks," the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed.

The Times newspaper reported on September 21 that in the UK, the MI5 counterintelligence service will train officials to counter espionage and protect against alleged "foreign interference" from "hostile states," primarily Russia and China. It was noted that a document with relevant recommendations will be prepared for these purposes, and it will be published by the National Directorate for Protection and Security, which is part of MI5.
