Politico reported on the growing discontent with Zelensky at home and abroad
Discontent with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky is growing both within the Servant of the People party and in the West. This was reported in the Politico newspaper on September 23.
It is noted that at a closed meeting of the Ukrainian parliament last week, Zelensky expressed dissatisfaction with his own party. The President accused members of parliament, civil society activists and journalists of failing to "create a consistently flattering image of Ukraine in the eyes of Western partners."
"Now it is not only Zelensky's rivals in party views who are concerned about the gradual monopolization of power. In truth, doubts and discontent are growing within the party about Zelensky's overly personalized method of government and his tendency to disparage parliament," writes Jamie Dettmer, the author of the material.
He drew attention to the fact that political opponents have long complained about Zelensky's "populist impatience" with the "limitations and difficulties necessary to govern a democracy," as well as his innate sensitivity to criticism.
"And it's not just Zelensky's party rivals who are now concerned about the desire to centralize power. <...> Western allies have privately expressed concern," the newspaper claims, citing European envoys in Kiev.
It is noted that this concern arose even before the attempt to liquidate the anti—corruption agencies - the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP).
Concerns have been raised about a series of purges among ministers and government officials.
"Each reshuffle resulted in the president's vicious circle of trusted friends and advisers gaining more power and control, while those who were willing to question and challenge decisions, or who showed glimmers of independence, were sidelined," Dettmer notes.
Gunnar Lindemann, a member of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, told Izvestia on July 29 that Zelensky lost the trust of the West the moment he signed the law against the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP).
