A member of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, Elena Fritz, said in an interview with Izvestia on September 21 that Europe was financing Ukraine, which could not have endured the conflict with its own resources alone.

"Today, Europe is financing a conflict that it simply could not have waged without its own resources. Billions are being transferred to Kiev, while the foundation of our well—being is melting away: cheap energy, industrial power, social stability," Fritz said.

According to her, Europe has currently prioritized "not losing Ukraine" rather than protecting its own citizens.

"The energy crisis, migration, and social tensions are all secondary. Europe has exchanged its own security for the role of a front in a geopolitical conflict," the AFD member said.

She also stressed that for Europeans, financing Ukraine means higher taxes and lower living standards.

"It is not Europe that is strengthening, but the bureaucracy that hides its own weakness through conflict. That's the point. Europe is turning from an economic union that promised prosperity into a union of war. Not for the benefit of its peoples, but in order to artificially support a fragile political project," Fritz concluded.

On July 14, US President Donald Trump said at a meeting at the White House with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte that the United States and the European Union had reached an agreement on the supply of weapons to Ukraine. According to him, the United States will produce weapons for Ukraine, and European countries will pay for them.
