- The Federation Council declared the impossibility of a settlement in Ukraine without Russia's consent
Senator Alexei Pushkov, commenting on the statement by Finnish President Alexander Stubb on September 21, stressed that a settlement of the conflict in Ukraine is possible only with Russia's consent.
"Finnish President Stubb, wanting to look resolute and firm, threatened obvious stupidity, saying that Russia allegedly "has absolutely no right to vote" on the issue of the so—called guarantees of Ukraine's security," he wrote on his Telegram channel.
As Pushkov pointed out, if Russia really did not have the right to vote, US President Donald Trump would not have met with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Alaska.
"It is clear to the whole world that there will be no settlement of the Ukrainian crisis without Russia's consent, since the terms of the settlement directly concern its security. It's clear to everyone, except, apparently, Stubb," the senator added.
According to Pushkov, the president of Finland and "people like him" have been trying to achieve something for quite a long time, but "nothing is working out for them." He believes that the main reason lies in attempts to impose conditions on Moscow that are unacceptable to it.
Yesterday, Finnish President Alexander Stubb said that European countries were not going to take Russia's interests into account when developing security guarantees for Ukraine. In his opinion, possible guarantees should become a deterrent. For this reason, they must be convincing and strong, Stubb noted.
Earlier, on September 18, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Ukraine's security guarantees were contained in its nuclear-weapon-free and non-aligned status.
