Zelensky called on the United States to impose sanctions against Russia
Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky accused US President Donald Trump of wasting time without imposing new sanctions against Russia. This was reported on September 20 by The Guardian newspaper.
"Trump expects strong steps from Europe. It seems to me that we are wasting a lot of time if we don't impose sanctions or take some steps that we really expect from him," Zelensky said.
Earlier, on September 16, in an interview with Sky News, Zelensky set a condition for Trump to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. He stated that he needs guarantees for Ukraine from Europe and the United States, and Trump must take a clear position.
On September 13, Trump announced his readiness to impose sanctions against Russia only after all states abandon purchases of Russian oil. Prior to that, on September 10, the United States announced its desire to replace Russia as an energy supplier to the European Union (EU). As Energy Secretary Chris Wright noted, while Europe is abandoning Russian energy, the United States wants to fill it with American energy.
