Trump declared the unique right of the United States to impose tariff restrictions

On September 18, US President Donald Trump said that only the United States can impose duties against other countries.

"We receive trillions of dollars due to duties, they have an extremely beneficial effect on the economy of our country. <...> By the way, we are the only ones who can impose duties, others cannot," he said at a joint press conference with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at his Chequers country residence.

According to Trump, the duties work because "people simply have nowhere to go." As the American leader pointed out, the duties imposed by him will attract investments in the amount of more than $17 trillion this year.

"More than $17 trillion is being invested in our country this year. This is many times more than we had last year," he said.

According to him, the American economy has never seen such investments. Without duties, the country received only a small part of this, Trump stressed.
