Estonia will start selling cars abandoned near the border with Russia in October.
In October, the Estonian Transport Department plans to begin evacuating cars parked in an unguarded parking lot on the Estonian-Russian border and, if the owners do not show up within a few months, will sell them. This was announced on September 17 by the ERR television and radio station.
Last week, the department signed an agreement with Svenai OY to move cars parked at the Koidula border crossing to a paid parking lot located 44 km from the border.
The Department's legal Service is currently developing a procedure for moving vehicles and the procedure for their subsequent sale.
"If the vehicle owner does not pick up the car within 30 days, we will receive a notification from the counterparty and send a warning to the vehicle owner that we will start selling the seized vehicle," the department said.
In addition, a new deadline will be set — at least one month — in order to pick up the car and pay for transportation and storage costs.
