NYT learned about the main dilemma of NATO in creating a no-fly zone over Ukraine
The creation of a no-fly zone over Ukraine will put the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO) in a dilemma. This was reported on September 17 by The New York Times (NYT).
"If Ukraine's Western allies really took responsibility for helping to protect the Ukrainian skies, it would become a dilemma," the article says.
The publication writes that in case of failure in repelling drones, this may demonstrate the impotence of NATO. At the same time, if expensive missiles are used to intercept drones, this could lead to a rapid depletion of the alliance's arsenals.
The Kurier newspaper reported on September 13 that the political situation in Poland had become extremely uncertain after the drone incident, which demonstrated NATO's vulnerability to security. The publication clarifies that weapons experts have long been raising the issue of creating a drone protection system along the eastern border of the North Atlantic Alliance. However, at the moment, no NATO country has implemented such a defense system.
Later, on September 15, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said that the introduction of a no-fly zone over Ukraine would mean a war between NATO countries and Russia. According to him, these actions will provide an opportunity for NATO countries to shoot down Russian drones.
